At CFTC we start all horses in training with natural horsemanship techniques, to include instruction taught by John Lyons, Chris Cox, Clinton Anderson ... just to name a few. We have found that certain horses respond to different methods and it is our experience that by incorporating more than one method of training you can cover more ground but the basics are the same: trust and respect. CFTC maintains an open door policy. Owners are always welcome to come and watch schooling sessions, and are encouraged to be active in the training of their horses. We believe that you are an integral part of your horses training and included in our training fee is a weekly lesson for you of either ground or saddle training, your choice. If your horse is already broke but needs a tune up we can work with them on ground manners, trust and respect issues, trail riding or ring work. Your goals are our goals. So that we can spend the necessary time with each horse we only accept 4 horses in training per month. Don't wait - call us at 1-864-838-6608 to check on availability, and see our Training Center Page for a discount coupon.

The most significant difference between The Eagle Valley Equestrian training program and others, is the freedom of choice I allow horses to have in the process. Contrary to what you may believe or have been told, when you allow a horse the choice to learn they will still choose to do so. A horse that is trained with the freedom to have an opinion vs. one that is forced--however nicely that force is applied--is a much happier, more confident horse, who will want to have a real relationship with you. They're the only type of horse I'm interested in training and riding! Training is done with the horse and then later its owner in the form of lessons so that the owner/handler learns what they need to do to gain the horse's respect and confidence. It does no good to either the horse or its handler for me to get things going really well with a horse if the owner is not going to be able to pick up where I left off and establish their own rapport and relationship. Horses respond to each person uniquely, largely based on what that person brings to the table. If you bring indecisiveness, uncertainty, or fear, your horse will respond to you in kind to varying degrees despite how well I or anyone else has trained it. You need to earn your horse's respect and confidence the same way I will, and that's what I'd like to teach you.
Making sure a good horse has a good start is very important. With your horse's well being be the most valued. Thus, using gentle Equineship training techniques to start makes a solid, positive foundation for a horse to have a happy time with their human and future career. This is about creating a willing and confident partner so you can enjoy your amazing creature, your horse and be set up for success! When starting and putting training days on a horse that has taken part in the training with Alicia a horse should confidently be able to: 'Want to' please their human partner with softness and understanding to the connection of the human. Have confidence, connection and understanding with the human. Develop confidence with human material including tarps and obstacles. Be ridden confidently by him/herself on the trail Able to walk, trot, canter, stop, and back willingly. Trailer load and cross water with ease. Accept saddle and hackamore and/or bridle. Begin the development of balancing the body for self carriage.

Located on the Western Cape of South Africa, Tamasine supports and teaches the Silversand Horsemanship training programme founded by Steve and Irena Halfpenny of Blanchetown, S. Australia. It is often "more about who we need to become" than a method of training. She follows the philosophy that the horse is our mirror and we often have to do as much, if not more work on ourselves than our horses! She only teaches people with their own horses or access to one they can work with regularly and offers one or two apprenticeship places per year at the centre. The placements run for around 12 months and there is quite a rigourous selection process in order to get a feel for applicants' commitment and understanding of this kind of horsemanship. She works with students from all disciplines and incorporates equine learning theory into the teaching. Those coming to study must really want to understand about feel, timing and balance and not want just a quick fix. She does not take any horse without the owner coming to study as well. The horse is easy to train; the people are not! She teaches in any area of RSA if there are enough people to run a clinic and Silversand Horsemanship is available as a home study programme - Silversand Horsemanship Foundation Skills 1-3 and Advancing 1 (with more to follow) and it is helpful to have a hands on clinic prior to getting started. It is also possible to join a support group which she runs which gives a regular input of training ideas, inspirational work and theory. Through this group it is possible to also get unlimited e-mail support direct from her. She is able to assess students by video or live to asscertain the progress of their studies. Silversand places emphasis on doing things for the horse and not to the horse - these skills are to be used as a guideline and work must be soft and correct from the start.

Will Clinging offers comprehensive training from May to November in Merritt, BC for unstarted horses, horses that have developed problems in their behavior or training program, green horses that need more skills and experience and horses that don’t seem to fit into other programs. Will believes the key to training a horse is in sharing responsibility with the horse and allowing the horse to open his mind. An open mind will remove fear, build confidence, eliminate anxiety and tension, and allow the horse to be involved in the training process. Will has worked with thousands of horses in a variety of disciplines from Reining to Dressage, from Polo to Jumping. Influenced by many trainers, Will has taken the skills he learned and adapted them into his own approach based on classical equitation with a great deal of understanding of the horse’s point of view to effectively motivate the horse as an individual.
